Samsungs TV launches have been a perennial CES highlight for the last few years, with its 3D LED range and last years magnificent 55-inch OLED offering, but this year the company is promising something a little different.
In a post on the Samsung Tomorrow blog, the Korean giant claimed it has an unprecedented TV design in the offing and posted a teaser photo of a translucent, portrait display enjoying a little bit of beach time.
The picture is accompanied by the caption: "A true innovation of TV design is coming up with an unprecedented new TV shape and timeless gallery design…"
The blog offers no further details, but a quick joining of the dots suggests that perhaps Samsung may be about to launch a portrait television with a translucent display.
Once again, the TV arena is set to be one of the more intriguing aspect of this years Las Vegas tech extravaganza. We can probably expect a slew of 4K Ultra-HD televisions from the major manufacturers as well as the next-gen Smart TV and perhaps some more-affordable OLED sets?

Vizio shows off glass free 3D XVT TV
Vizios 55-inch 3D XVT does full 3D completely glasses free
Vizio may be a fairly unknown brand here in the UK, but over in the States it is beginning to release a large selection of phones, computers and TV’s. One of its most interesting announcements this week at CES was the 55-inch 3D XVT, which does full 3D, completely glasses free.
This deals with one of peoples main issues with 3D, the need to be wearing those pesky heavy glasses all the time. The XVT is also packing Ultra HD 4K resolution, which works together with the 3D to create something that could look fantastic.
As with most things 3D, there is a sweet spot that gives the viewer the best possible picture. Move outside of this and things could start getting a little bit blurry.
Vizio did not release any specific specs and the device that they have been showing at CES was purely a prototype model.
The XVT is not expected to launch this year, but even when it does get a shipping date we might not see it here in UK, going by other products Vizio have released.

Panasonic announces Android Smart App smart home appliances and cloud services
The new smart appliances include Panasonic’s X Series room air conditioners, a top-mount refrigerator (NR-F557XV), drum-type washer-dryers (NA-VX8200/NA-VT8200), as well as healthcare products such as the EW-FA43 body composition monitor, the EW-NK63 calorie meter and EW-BW53 blood pressure monitor. These appliances will be available in Japan from September 25. The new air conditioners will be internet-connected and can also be operated with iPhone as well as Android phones. iPhone cannot be used with other appliances as it lack of NFC. The home appliances will function with Sony’s proprietary FeliCa RFID technology and NTT DoCoMo’s Osaifu-Keitai. There is no information on international availability and pricing.

Foremay unveils 2 TB 2 5 inch SATA SSD
One of the biggest drawbacks to using a SSD has always been the fact that they tend to be available in smaller storage capacities compared to traditional hard drives. While you can find drives with multiple terabytes of storage if you go with a traditional hard drive, most SSDs top out at around 500 GB. SSD manufacturer Foremay has change that with the announcement of a new SSD in its SC199 family.The new SSD has a whopping 2 TB of storage space and still uses a standard 2.5-inch form factor with a SATA interface. Despite having two terabytes of storage space, the drive has a thickness of 9.5 mm. The 2 TB drive is aimed at enterprise users and comes in two versions with one designed for mission-critical applications and the other designed for terminal computing.
The SSD also supports integrated flash management technologies like Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.), advanced power management, and advanced error correction algorithms. The 2 TB SSD also has optional features such as fast erase, military secure erase methods, hardware-based encryption, and conformal coating.
Foremay is also offering the SSD with 1 TB capacity and the same features. The 1 TB version of the SSD has a maximum write speed of 260 MB per second and a maximum read speed of 260 MB per second. Presumably, the performance of the 2 TB version will be similar, if not the same. Pricing and availability are unannounced at this time.
