AT T Pebble Preview

Now the changes have hit home at Poppy Hills, a course that wasnt very popular. The changes that were introduced last year to Pebble Beach were very well received and with the success of last years U.S. Open, the Open will return to Pebble in 2019. Only Augusta National and Colonial have held more tournaments on the PGA Tour than Pebble.

Yes in his three years playing in this event he has finished T7th, win and win. The next year Johnson opened up the tournament on a picture perfect day at Pebble Beach and shot 65. But with the bad rain over the weekend, Johnson lucked out as the tournament was reduced to 54 holes and he never played the final round at Pebble.

Last year again Johnson played Pebble in the first round under ideal conditions, no wind and sunshine and shot 64. Both played in the final round and both played terrible, Goydos shot 78 while Johnson shot 74. The point I am making, Johnson plays great at Spyglass which has set up his wins but playing Pebble has been a problem, unless the weather is picture perfect. For years this tournament was the mainstay of celebrities, big stars like Hope, Crosby, James Garner, Clint Eastwood and Jack Lemmon.

he 2011 At&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament begins this week without its master. Tiger Woods, who has had many memorable performances at Pebble Beach, will be absent from the Pro-Am tournament yet again. Ever since winning the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2000, Woods hasnt played in the tournament. Meanwhile, Pebble Beach was swallowing Gogels ball as he couldnt keep pace.

Woods was already a dominating presence on the PGA Tour at this point in his career. The 2000 Pebble Beach Pro-Am was his 17th Tour victory at age 24. Gogels lone victory would ironically come in 2002 at the the Pebble Beach Pro-Am since becoming a professional in 1996.
